James Robertson Justice introduced Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Yehudi Menuhin, Alida Belair, Marisa Robles, Kenneth Bannerman with the Bath Festival Orchestra conducted by Lawrence Leonard.
The New Music Manchester Group was formed when Alexander Goehr was at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester in 1952-5. The group included his fellow students, Peter Maxwell Davis, Harrison Birtwistle, Elgar Howarth and the pianist, John Ogdon. Its members played a significant role in reshaping the landscape of British music in the later 20th century.
Naboth’s Vineyard, ‘A Dramatic Madrigal’ by Alexander Goehr.
Naboth’s Vineyard forms the first part of Alexander Goehr’s music theatre Triptych, which was first performed in February 1968. Goehr calls it a Dramatic Madrigal and the text is based on a religious story taken from 1 Kings 21.
The Trout Quintet (1969)

In August 1969 this group of young outstanding soloists came together to perform the Trout Quintet. It was evident that the rehearsals were as much a pleasure as was the performance itself. Laelia was invited to photograph one of the rehearsals. These photographs have not been seen previously.
